Whereas, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
3“COVID-19 spreads mainly from person to person through respiratory droplets”
4which travel through the air when individuals “cough, sneeze, talk, shout, or sing”;

Whereas, the CDC recommends that “Everyone 2 years of age and older should
7wear a mask in public settings and when they are around people who do not live in
8their household”; and

Whereas, elected officials should set a clear and unified example for the public
10by following proper public health recommendations and adhering to the highest
11levels of safety precautions; and

Whereas, wearing masks is a simple and critically important action that can
13reduce the rate of COVID-19 infections, support our economic recovery efforts,
14prevent our health system from becoming overwhelmed, and save lives; and

1Whereas, the failure to wear a mask unnecessarily risks the health and
2well-being of our fellow citizens, lawmakers, capitol staff, law enforcement and
3health care professionals, especially those who have compromised immune systems
4or fall under other high-risk categories; now, therefore, be it

5Resolved by the
senate, That all persons shall wear a face mask and maintain
6a proper social distance at all times in the state capitol building, except if a person
7has a certified medical reason or excuse. Violations are subject to all applicable
8penalties under law, including civil forfeitures for each violation.
