SJR5,1,43 Whereas, February is recognized across the nation as Teen Dating Violence
4Awareness and Prevention Month; and
SJR5,1,65 Whereas, dating violence is a reality for many youth and an issue that many
6parents are unaware of; and
SJR5,1,117 Whereas, one in three young people are affected by physical, sexual, or verbal
8dating violence, with one in five women and one in ten men in a serious relationship
9reporting having been slapped, pushed, hit, threatened, or coerced by a partner, and
10breakups can be a time of even greater risk, even when a relationship was never
11physically abusive; and
SJR5,1,1312 Whereas, statistics show that suicidal ideation is six to nine times more
13common in teens who had experienced physical or sexual violence; and

1Whereas, young people can choose better relationships when they understand
2that healthy relationships are based on respect and when they learn to identify early
3warning signs of an abusive relationship; and
SJR5,2,54 Whereas, the elimination of dating violence must be achieved through the
5cooperation of individuals, organizations, and communities; and
SJR5,2,96 Whereas, Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month provides an
7excellent opportunity for citizens to learn more about preventing dating violence and
8to show support for the numerous organizations and individuals who provide critical
9advocacy, services, and assistance to victims; now, therefore, be it
SJR5,2,12 10Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the Wisconsin
11State Legislature does hereby recognize February as Teen Dating Violence
12Awareness and Prevention Month.
