SB755,1,2 1An Act to amend 84.25 (3) of the statutes; relating to: use of tire deflation
2devices on certain state highway exit ramps.

Under this bill, when constructing or reconstructing exit ramps on state trunk
highways that have two or more divided lanes in either direction or interstate
highways, the Department of Transportation must install tire deflation devices on
the exit ramps for the purpose of preventing motor vehicles from entering the exit
ramp from the direction opposite of the direction for which travel has been
designated.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
SB755,1 3Section 1. 84.25 (3) of the statutes is amended to read:
SB755,2,164 84.25 (3) Construction; other powers of department. In order to provide for
5the public safety, convenience, and the general welfare, the department may use an
6existing highway or provide new and additional facilities for a controlled-access

1highway and so design the same and its appurtenances, and so regulate, restrict, or
2prohibit access to or departure from it as the department deems necessary or
3desirable. The department may eliminate intersections at grade of controlled-access
4highways with existing highways or streets, by grade separation or service road, or
5by closing off such roads and streets at the right-of-way boundary line of such
6controlled-access highway and may divide and separate any controlled-access
7highway into separate roadways or lanes by raised curbings, dividing sections, or
8other physical separations or by signs, markers, stripes, or other suitable devices,
9and may execute any construction necessary in the development of a
10controlled-access highway including service roads or separation of grade structures.
11Notwithstanding s. 84.02 (4) (e), on controlled-access highways that are part of the
12national system of interstate and defense highways or are state trunk highways that
13have 2 or more divided lanes in either direction, when constructing or reconstructing
14exit ramps the department shall install tire deflation devices on the exit ramps so as
15to prevent motor vehicles from entering the exit ramp from the direction opposite of
16the direction for which travel has been designated.
