SB143,1,3 1An Act to create 36.11 (44) and 38.04 (33) of the statutes; relating to:
2satisfaction of University of Wisconsin and technical college course
3requirements through COVID-related activities.

This bill requires University of Wisconsin institutions and technical colleges to
offer students an opportunity to use hours engaged in an eligible activity to satisfy
related course requirements to the extent appropriate. An “eligible activity” means
volunteering or working, for at least one semester, to assist Wisconsin in responding
to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
SB143,1 4Section 1 . 36.11 (44) of the statutes is created to read:
SB143,2,25 36.11 (44) Satisfaction of course requirements through certain activities.
6 (a) In this subsection, “eligible activity” of a student means volunteering or working,

1for at least one semester, to assist Wisconsin in responding to the COVID-19
2pandemic.
SB143,2,53 (b) The board shall ensure that each institution offers students an opportunity
4to use hours engaged in an eligible activity to satisfy related course requirements to
5the extent appropriate, as determined by the institution.
SB143,2 6Section 2 . 38.04 (33) of the statutes is created to read:
SB143,2,107 38.04 (33) Satisfaction of course requirements through certain activities.
8 (a) In this subsection, “eligible activity” of a student means volunteering or working,
9for at least one semester, to assist Wisconsin in responding to the COVID-19
10pandemic.
SB143,2,1311 (b) The board shall ensure that each district board offers students an
12opportunity to use hours engaged in an eligible activity to satisfy related course
13requirements to the extent appropriate, as determined by the district board.
SB143,3 14Section 3. Initial applicability.
SB143,2,1615 (1) This act first applies to the first semester beginning after the effective date
16of this subsection.
