SB1023,1,2 1An Act relating to: federal financial participation for health services for Afghan
2refugees.

This bill requires the Department of Health Services to request from the federal
Department of Health and Human Services any federal approval necessary to extend
the full federal financial participation that is provided for health services provided
through the state's Medical Assistance program to Afghan refugees from eight
months to five years. DHS must report to the legislature the resolution of its request
to the federal DHHS. The Medical Assistance program, also known as Medicaid, is
a joint state and federal program that provides health services primarily to
individuals who have limited financial resources.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
SB1023,1 3Section 1. Nonstatutory provisions.
SB1023,2,54 (1) The department of health services shall request from the federal
5department of health and human services any waiver of federal law or other federal

1approval necessary to extend from 8 months to 5 years the full federal financial
2participation for health services provided through the state's Medical Assistance
3program to Afghan refugees arriving in this state on or after July 31, 2021. The
4department of health services shall report to the legislature under s. 13.172 (2) the
5resolution of the request under this subsection.
