AJR83,1,43 Whereas, on October 7, 2001, the United States launched Operation Enduring
4Freedom in Afghanistan in response to the terror attacks of September 11, 2001; and
AJR83,1,65 Whereas, U.S. service members strove to achieve peace and stability for the
6people of Afghanistan for nearly 20 years; and
AJR83,1,87 Whereas, the United States negotiated a withdrawal of its armed forces by
8August 31, 2021; and
AJR83,1,119 Whereas, the Taliban began a rapid takeover of Afghanistan in August 2021,
10prompting hundreds of thousands of refugees to flee to Kabul to escape Taliban
11persecution; and
AJR83,1,1412 Whereas, U.S. marines, soldiers, and sailors were deployed to the Hamid
13Karzai International Airport to assist in evacuating U.S. citizens and Afghan
14refugees; and

2Johanny Rosario Pichardo, Marine Corps sergeant Nicole L. Gee, Marine Corps

11child, a brother to 12 loving siblings, an aspiring engineering student, and a
12Dominican American who was the pride of her local community; and
AJR83,2,1413 Whereas, all 13 men and women devoted themselves to serving their country
14and safeguarding the rescue of the innocent; and
AJR83,2,1615 Whereas, family members, friends, and neighbors have honored the lives of the
16fallen with candlelit vigils, motorcades, murals, and flags flown half-staff; and
AJR83,2,1917 Whereas, Americans will remember the bravery of these 13 fallen service
18members who were the last to lose their lives during the involvement of the United
19States in Afghanistan; and
AJR83,2,2220 Whereas, these fallen service members join the venerated ranks of 2,461 U.S.
21service members who gave their lives for Operation Enduring Freedom; now,
22therefore, be it
AJR83,3,2 23Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
24Wisconsin Legislature commemorate the remarkable lives of the fallen service

1members and extend their deepest sympathies to the families, friends, and
2colleagues of the fallen service members.
