AJR74,1,42 Whereas, August 15, 2021, marks the 74th anniversary of the effective date of
3the India Independence Act on August 15, 1947, and the resulting establishment of
4India as a sovereign state independent from the United Kingdom; and
AJR74,1,65 Whereas, Indian citizens, people of Indian descent, and many others worldwide
6have celebrated India's Independence Day on August 15 each year since 1947; and
AJR74,1,117 Whereas, the celebration of India's Independence Day provides important
8opportunities to recognize and commemorate India's cultural diversity, extensive
9history, and the many historical and modern contributions of Indian immigrants and
10those of Indian descent to the past and present both in Wisconsin and across the
11world; and
AJR74,1,1412 Whereas, IndiaFest Milwaukee has been held annually since 2013 and features
13hundreds of volunteers, thousands of attendees, and dozens of corporate sponsors all
14gathering to celebrate India's independence, culture, and heritage; and

1Whereas, a variety of sponsors, including the nonprofit organization Spindle
2India, Inc., have made such celebrations possible through generous donations of
3time, effort, and resources that expand cultural education, bring communities
4together, and promote collaboration between India and the United States; and
AJR74,2,85 Whereas, the continuing efforts of IndiaFest's organizers and volunteers each
6and every year represent invaluable contributions that have and will continue to
7advance cultural understanding of the Indian community and promote diversity and
8inclusion for years to come; now, therefore, be it

10Legislature observes August 15, 2021, as India Day in Wisconsin.
