AB224,1,3 1An Act to renumber and amend 60.30 (4) (a); to amend 17.03 (10), 59.10 (2)
2(b) and 59.10 (3) (d); and to create 60.30 (4) (a) 2., 61.23 (3) and 62.09 (5) (f) of
3the statutes; relating to: terms of office for local government officers.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, the term of office for county board supervisor or town board
supervisor is two years and the term of office for most city or village elected officers
is two years. This bill provides that the terms of office for these officers extends until
the successors are elected and qualified.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB224,1 4Section 1. 17.03 (10) of the statutes is amended to read:
AB224,1,85 17.03 (10) If the office is elective, the incumbent's term expires, except for the
6office of sheriff, coroner, register of deeds or , district attorney, county board
7supervisor, or town board supervisor or a village officer to whom s. 61.23 (3) applies
8or a city officer to whom s. 62.09 (5) (f) applies

1Section 2. 59.10 (2) (b) of the statutes is amended to read:
AB224,2,102 59.10 (2) (b) Election; term. For an election that is held before 2016, supervisors
3shall be elected for 4-year terms at the election to be held on the first Tuesday in April
4next preceding the expiration of their respective terms, and shall take office on the
53rd Monday in April following their election. For an election that is held in 2016 and
6thereafter, supervisors
Supervisors shall be elected for 2-year terms at the election
7to be held on the first Tuesday in April next preceding the expiration of their
8respective terms, and shall take office on the 3rd Monday in April following their
9election. The term of office of a supervisor is 2 years and until a successor is elected
10and qualified.

AB224,2,1612 59.10 (3) (d) Election and term of supervisors. Supervisors are county officers, .
