AB1182,1,2 1An Act to create 20.395 (2) (jt) and 85.024 of the statutes; relating to: local
2traffic calming project grants and making an appropriation.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under this bill, the Department of Transportation is required to develop and
administer a local traffic calming grant program. Under the program, DOT awards
grants to counties, cities, villages, and towns for projects to reduce the speed of
vehicular traffic in areas of high pedestrian use for the purpose of improving
pedestrian safety.

printed as an appendix to this bill.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:

AB1182,2 1Section 2 . 20.395 (2) (jt) of the statutes is created to read:
AB1182,2,32 20.395 (2) (jt) Local traffic calming grants. As a continuing appropriation, the
3amounts in the schedule for the local traffic calming grant program under s. 85.024.
AB1182,3 4Section 3. 85.024 of the statutes is created to read:
AB1182,2,14 585.024 Local traffic calming grants. The department shall develop and
6administer a local traffic calming grant program. From the appropriation under s.
720.395 (2) (jt), the department shall award grants to counties, cities, villages, and
8towns for projects to reduce the speed of vehicular traffic in areas of high pedestrian
9use for the purpose of improving pedestrian safety. The department shall prescribe
10the form, nature, and extent of information that shall be contained in applications
11for grants under this section and shall establish criteria for evaluating applications
12and for awarding grants under this section. The amount of a grant awarded under
13this section may not exceed 50 percent of the cost of the project and may not exceed
14$150,000.
