SJR74,1,32 Whereas, Joseph E. “Joe” Tregoning was born in Dubuque, Iowa, on May 26,
31941, to parents Orville and Ermine; and
SJR74,1,54 Whereas, Joe lived in Shullsburg, Wisconsin, with his family and graduated
5from Shullsburg High School in 1959; and
SJR74,1,76 Whereas, Joe wed Jeanne Brunette on March 2, 1971, and devoted himself to
7her until her passing in 2016; and
SJR74,1,98 Whereas, Joe was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly in April 1967 and
9served that body for over 20 years; and
SJR74,1,1110 Whereas, Joe served on various committees, including over two decades on the
11Assembly Committee on Agriculture; and
SJR74,1,1312 Whereas, Joe was active in his party as a member of the Lafayette County
13Republicans and of caucus leadership in the Assembly; and

1Whereas, Joe was appointed executive assistant, and later deputy secretary, of
2the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection during the
3administration of his friend Governor Tommy Thompson; and
SJR74,2,54 Whereas, Joe was a longtime farmer who championed the interests of farmers
5both within his district and throughout the state; and
SJR74,2,76 Whereas, Joe triumphed over personal adversity to make meaningful
7accomplishments for his family, community, and state; and
SJR74,2,108 Whereas, Joe passed away on October 10, 2019, leaving behind his son Joshua,
9daughter-in-law Andrea, grandchildren Ila, Lilia, and Kass, and other beloved
10family members; and
SJR74,2,1211 Whereas, the flags of the United States and the State of Wisconsin were flown
12at half-staff on Friday and Saturday, October 18 and 19, 2019, in his honor; and
SJR74,2,1413 Whereas, Joe will be remembered as a public servant, devoted husband and
14father, man of faith, farmer, and avid hunter; now, therefore, be it
SJR74,2,17 15Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
16Wisconsin State Legislature join in honoring the life and public service of Joseph
17“Joe” Tregoning and extend their sincerest sympathy to his family and friends.
