SJR23,1,22 Whereas, Gwen T. Jackson passed away on March 24, 2019; and
SJR23,1,53 Whereas, Gwen lived a remarkable life, full of courage and dedication to her
4community, and is an inspiration for the entire State of Wisconsin for generations to
5come; and
SJR23,1,76 Whereas, Gwen retired as a Vice-President of Human Services at Brills Colony
7Men's Clothing Store in 1981; and
SJR23,1,118 Whereas, Gwen, following her retirement, didn't slow down and dedicated her
9life to serving others, serving at the United Way, the Urban League, the YMCA, the
10Department of Aging, the Greater Milwaukee Foundation, the Girl Scouts of
11America, and other community organizations; and
SJR23,1,1512 Whereas, Gwen also served the American Red Cross for more than 50 years,
13including at one of the highest volunteer positions in the organization, the National
14Chair of Volunteers for the American Red Cross. Gwen was the first and only
15African-American to serve in that position; and

1Whereas, Gwen volunteered at times of need to support service members
2during the Persian Gulf War and for victims of Hurricane Hugo; and
SJR23,2,53 Whereas, Gwen's service to her community inspired the renaming of the 21st
4Street School in Milwaukee to the Gwen T. Jackson Early Childhood and Elementary
5School; and
SJR23,2,86 Whereas, Gwen's love and generosity for Milwaukee leaves a long and proud
7legacy that will not be forgotten by those whose lives she has touched; now, therefore,
8be it
SJR23,2,10 9Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
10Wisconsin Legislature salute the life and public service of Gwen T. Jackson.
