relating to: rent abatement for
2tenants and requiring the exercise of rule-making authority.

Under current law, generally, if a leased property is damaged or has a condition
that is hazardous to the health or safety of the tenant, the tenant is entitled to abate
rent to the extent that the tenant is deprived of the full normal use of the leased
property. This bill requires the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer
Protection to promulgate rules that specify items for which a tenant may be entitled
to rent abatement and the amount of abatement a tenant would be entitled to for each
item.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
