January 30, 2020 - Introduced by Senators Feyen and Jacque, cosponsored by

Government, Small Business, Tourism and Workforce Development.
SB764,1,3
1An Act relating to: modifying an administrative rule of the Department of
2Safety and Professional Services regarding renewal of a registered electrician
3enrollment for a youth apprentice.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
This bill modifies a rule of the Department of Safety and Professional Services
to create an exception to the continuing education requirement for a youth
apprentice who is enrolled as a registered electrician.
Under current law, no person may install, repair, or maintain electrical wiring
unless the person is licensed as an electrician or enrolled as a registered electrician
by DSPS. Under current rules of DSPS, a person who is enrolled as a registered
electrician may renew his or her enrollment if the person obtains at least 24 hours
of continuing education prior to the expiration of the one-year term of the
enrollment.
Under the bill, a person who is enrolled in a youth apprenticeship program
approved by the Department of Workforce Development may renew his or her
enrollment as a registered electrician without completing the continuing education
that applies to other registered electricians.
For further information see the state fiscal estimate, which will be printed as
an appendix to this bill.
