SB725,1,3 1An Act to create 20.370 (4) (na) of the statutes; relating to: biomanipulation
2projects to improve the water quality of lakes and impoundments and making
3an appropriation.

This bill requires the Department of Natural Resources to provide grants to
local water improvement groups to conduct projects using biomanipulation to
improve the water quality of lakes and impoundments and appropriates $150,000 to
DNR for that purpose.

enact as follows:

SB725,2,42 20.370 (4) (na) Lake biomanipulation projects. Biennially, from the general
3fund, the amounts in the schedule for grants under 2019 Wisconsin Act .... (this act),
4section 3 (1).
SB725,3 5Section 3 . Nonstatutory provisions.
SB725,2,146 (1) In the 2019-21 fiscal biennium, from the appropriation under s. 20.370 (4)
7(na), the department of natural resources shall provide grants to local water
8improvement groups, selected through a competitive application process determined
9by the department, to conduct projects using biomanipulation, which shall include
10comprehensive fish studies, the removal of zooplanktivorous and benthivorous fish,
11and the introduction of piscivorous fish, to improve the water quality of lakes and
12impoundments identified on the impaired waters list prepared by the department as
13required under 40 CFR 130.7 (b). Grants under this subsection may cover 90 percent
14of the costs of biomanipulation projects.
