AJR94,1,2 Relating to: congratulating Madison-native Gabriella Deyi on her crowning as Miss Wisconsin USA 2020.

AJR94,1,4 Whereas, Gabriella Deyi, a Madison-native, is 27 years old and is a television broadcast journalist and personality in Madison, Wisconsin; and

AJR94,1,7 Whereas, before pursuing her dreams of becoming a journalist, Gabby was a research scientist, receiving her undergraduate degree in the sciences and immediately pursuing graduate work after graduation; and

AJR94,1,9 Whereas, Gabriella strives to raise awareness for mental health and break down stigmas and barriers; and

AJR94,1,12 Whereas, Gabriella's personal experience with mental health informs her perspective on mental health's importance, and she acknowledges that she is not alone on this journey; and

AJR94,1,15 Whereas, Gabriella knows that there are many people around the world who live the same reality but wants to help those people speak their truth and tell their story; and

AJR94,2,2 Whereas, Gabriella wants to be a voice for those who feel voiceless and credits her strength to do that to her father; and

AJR94,2,4 Whereas, Gabriella believes that “grit is the best quality a person can have. And my father is the grittiest person I know"; and

AJR94,2,6 Whereas, Gabriella is proud to be a first-generation American, as she is the child of immigrants, and proud to be someone who fluently speaks Spanish; and

AJR94,2,8 Whereas, Gabriella is a competitively trained figure skater, loves bowling, and is a self-taught indoor rock climber; and

AJR94,2,11 Whereas, Gabriella won Miss Wisconsin USA and wants all the girls and women competing in pageants to know that they “should never give up — no matter how many times you are told NO — because all you really need is one YES!”; and

AJR94,2,13 Whereas, Gabriella Deyi has, by winning Miss Wisconsin USA 2020, made her state proud; now, therefore, be it

AJR94,2,17 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin Legislature do hereby commend Gabriella Deyi on being crowned Miss Wisconsin USA 2020 and wish her success in her continued efforts to serve as a role model for all and a tireless advocate for those impacted by mental health issues.
