AJR82,1,22 Whereas, August is National Immunization Awareness Month; and
AJR82,1,43 Whereas, nearly a million students will return to Wisconsin schools at the end
4of August and beginning of September; and
AJR82,1,75 Whereas, state law requires K-12 students to receive certain immunizations
6to maintain herd immunity and protect the health of those who are unable to receive
7those immunizations; and
AJR82,1,108 Whereas, a national measles outbreak impacting 30 states and nearly 1,200
9individuals is currently the largest in the United States in over 25 years and since
10measles was declared eliminated in this country; and
AJR82,1,1211 Whereas, the current measles outbreak could have been prevented in certain
12parts of the country with higher vaccination rates and fewer exemptions; and
AJR82,1,1413 Whereas, immunizations are considered to be one of the greatest modern
14medical discoveries of the past century; and

1Whereas, vaccines are estimated to have prevented 26.8 million
2hospitalizations and 936,000 deaths among children born in the United States
3between 1994 and 2018; and
AJR82,2,64 Whereas, vaccinations are necessary and safe for the overwhelming majority
5of people and have been shown to prevent disease across the globe; now therefore it

8Wisconsin Legislature recognize August 2019 as Immunization Awareness Month in
9Wisconsin.
