AJR47,1,32 Whereas, Wisconsin has a committed history of being at the forefront of
3supporting equality for all its citizens; and
AJR47,1,64 Whereas, in February 1982, Wisconsin made history when Governor Lee
5Sherman Dreyfus signed the nation's first state law protecting lesbians and gays
6from discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodations; and
AJR47,1,97 Whereas, in the intervening years, tremendous advancements have been made
8with respect to equitable treatment of lesbians, gay men, bisexual, and transgender
9(LGBT) persons both in Wisconsin and throughout the nation; and
AJR47,1,1210 Whereas, Wisconsin has elected the first openly LGBT member of the United
11States Senate and the Wisconsin state legislature has five openly LGBT members;
12and
AJR47,1,1513 Whereas, in June 2014, same-sex couples were legally able to marry in
14Wisconsin, and the United States Supreme Court affirmed the equal right to
15marriage for same-sex couples in all 50 states in June 2015; and

1Whereas, despite these advances LGBT people continue to face discrimination
2and LGBT youth continue to be at increased risk for bullying, substance abuse,
3depression, homelessness, and suicide; and
AJR47,2,54 Whereas, June has become a symbolic month in which LGBT people and their
5allies have come together in various celebrations of pride; and
AJR47,2,76 Whereas, recognizing Pride Month will help foster an atmosphere of inclusion,
7acceptance, and celebration to the community; and
AJR47,2,108 Whereas, LGBT individuals, along with their families, friends, and neighbors,
9will be honoring Pride Month in cities and towns across the state, including
10Milwaukee, Madison, Green Bay, La Crosse, Beloit, and Superior; and
AJR47,2,1311 Whereas, the month-long celebration is an opportunity for all people in the
12state to affirm their commitment to mutual respect and understanding; now,
13therefore, be it
AJR47,2,15 14Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
15legislature recognizes the month of June 2019 to be LGBT Pride Month.
