AJR46,1,2 Relating to: honoring Wisconsin native Megan Gustafson for an incredible college women's basketball career.

AJR46,1,5 Whereas, Megan Gustafson was born and raised in the town of Port Wing in Bayfield County, graduating from South Shore High School in a class of 11 students in 2015; and

AJR46,1,8 Whereas, during her high school career, Megan Gustafson played basketball as a South Shore Cardinal and was recruited to play for the Iowa Hawkeyes after graduation; and

AJR46,2,5 Whereas, Megan won numerous awards and recognitions playing basketball while in high school, including being named to the Wisconsin Associated Press Girls Basketball All-State fourth team and the Indianhead Conference's Division 5 Girls All-State Team in 2013 as a sophomore; being nominated to the All-Conference first team four seasons straight and to the All-State first team twice; being the first player in Wisconsin high school girls basketball history to score 2,000 career points by her junior year, before ultimately breaking a 2004 all-time scoring record in the state of Wisconsin with 3,229 career points, leading her team to two appearances at the State Girls Basketball Tournament; and being selected as the 2014-2015 recipient of the Pat Richter Award as the Triple Play Triple Threat Female Athlete of the Year and the Indianhead Conference's Player of the Year for both the West and East Divisions in 2015; and

AJR46,2,9 Whereas, Gustafson will graduate on May 10, 2019, from the University of Iowa with a double major in finance and marketing and a minor in psychology, where she has been recognized as All-Academic Big Ten, having maintained at least a 3.0 GPA during her entire college career; and

AJR46,2,15 Whereas, Gustafson leads the nation in scoring, points, and field goal percentages and is the top rebounder in Big Ten history leading Iowa to a Big Ten Tournament title before being named a first-team All-American by ESPNW for the second year in a row in addition to winning the Big Ten Player of the Year award twice, making Megan only the ninth two-time Big Ten Player of the Year in conference history; and

AJR46,2,22 Whereas, during her college career, Megan has earned and received many awards, including being recently named the 2018-2019 ESPNW National Player of the Year, the Naismith Player of the Year, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Player of the Year, the Associated Press Women's College Basketball Player of the Year, 13-time Big Ten Player of the Week, first-team AP All American, first-team All-Big Ten, Big Ten Tournament MVP, and recipient of the Lisa Leslie Award, given to the nation's top center; and

AJR46,3,5 Whereas, an incredible college career came to an end on April 1, 2019, with a career total 2,804 points, 1,001 of which were scored in her final season, making Gustafson only the fourth player in Division I history to score 1,000 points in a season, 136 collegiate games played, breaking records for field goals, points, rebounds, and season percentages and field goal percentages for the NCAA, University of Iowa, and Big Ten while leading the Iowa Hawkeyes to their first Big Ten Tournament title in 18 years and to their first Elite Eight in 26 years as well as helping Iowa tie a program record with 29 wins in her final season; and

AJR46,3,9 Whereas, at the Women's National Basketball Association's draft on April 10, 2019, at the Nike New York headquarters in New York City, Megan Gustafson was selected 17th overall in the second round of the draft to begin her professional basketball career with the Dallas Wings; and

AJR46,3,14 Whereas, Megan Gustafson has consistently represented her family, community, teams, state, and country as a positive role model in high school and college, serving in leadership roles, supporting her teammates during their successes and failures, committing to hard work and inspiring others to do the same; now, therefore, be it

AJR46,3,17 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That that the members of the Wisconsin Legislature hereby recognize Megan Gustafson for her outstanding college career and wish her all the best in her endeavors.
