AJR37,1,1 Relating to: proclaiming May 2019 as World Trade Month.

AJR37,1,4 Whereas, the month of May is World Trade Month, and Wisconsin is a key contributor of the United States' international trade, providing over $22 billion in exports; and

AJR37,1,8 Whereas, Wisconsin exports to countries all over the world, but the two countries with the most developed trading relationships with Wisconsin are Canada and Mexico, with Canada receiving almost $7 billion in exports in 2017, and Mexico receiving more than $3 billion; and

AJR37,1,12 Whereas, it is especially important to have a solid trade relationship with Mexico and Canada, and the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement would strengthen these relationships, and expand opportunities for Wisconsin exporters; and

AJR37,2,2 Whereas, many of Wisconsin's top exports are made by our highly skilled manufacturing industry, including industrial machinery, electrical machinery, medical and scientific instruments, vehicles and parts, and plastic products. These exports are products of manufacturing, which employs more than 16 percent of the Wisconsin workforce; and

AJR37,2,5 Whereas, Wisconsin's farmers and food processors produce vital exports including dairy products, grains, fruits, and vegetables. Agriculture and food processing provide 11.9 percent of jobs in Wisconsin's economy; and

AJR37,2,8 Whereas, Wisconsin's workers create high quality products for export across all industries. Their exports help to demonstrate Wisconsin's values, such as hard work and conscientiousness; now, therefore, be it

AJR37,2,11 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin Legislature, in recognition of the importance of international trade, hereby proclaim May 2019 as World Trade Month in Wisconsin.
