AJR136,1,1 Relating to: honoring the life and public service of Representative Warren A. Grady.

AJR136,1,4 Whereas, Warren A. Grady was a World War II veteran, public servant, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, avid reader, and active member of his church and his community; and

AJR136,1,7 Whereas, Warren was born on March 3, 1924, in Port Washington, Wisconsin, and graduated in 1942 from Port Washington High School, where he was a member of the National Honor Society and competed in both football and track; and

AJR136,1,10 Whereas, Warren served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946, achieving the rank of lieutenant and serving in the Pacific Fleet during World War II; and

AJR136,1,13 Whereas, following his military service, Warren completed his higher education, graduating with a bachelor's degree from Northwestern University and a law degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison; and

AJR136,2,3 Whereas, Warren was elected City Attorney in Port Washington in April 1952, followed by his election in November 1952 to the Wisconsin Assembly representing Ozaukee County; and

AJR136,2,8 Whereas, during his four terms in the Wisconsin Assembly, Warren served on the Committee on State Affairs; Committee on Judiciary; Committee on Taxation; Committee on Rules; Joint Committee on Revisions, Repeals, and Uniform Laws—including service as chair of Taxation and of Rules—and was majority floor leader for the 1957 session; and

AJR136,2,11 Whereas, Warren was the author of laws enacted on various topics, including civil defense and emergency government, chemical tests for intoxication, unlawful dealing in narcotics, motor vehicle fuel taxes, courts, and other areas of policy; and

AJR136,2,14 Whereas, Warren was elected Ozaukee County judge in 1962, and was reelected to multiple terms for a total of 32 years, the longest tenure in office for any Ozaukee County judge; and

AJR136,2,17 Whereas, Warren was active in community organizations including American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Kiwanis, and as a Scout leader received the Silver Beaver Award, the highest honor for a Scout leader; and

AJR136,2,20 Whereas, Warren was an active member at Friedens Evangelical Church as a Sunday school teacher and choir member, and where he met Phyllis Witzlib, whom he married in 1951; and

AJR136,2,25 Whereas, in 68 years of marriage Warren and Phyllis raised eight children; had 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; travelled to 49 states; enjoyed time at their cottage on Townline Lake in Three Lakes, Wisconsin, and a seasonal home in Green Valley, Arizona; and were most recently residents of Oak Park Place in Baraboo, Wisconsin; and

AJR136,3,2 Whereas, Warren passed away on December 14, 2019, at age 95, now, therefore, be it

AJR136,3,5 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin Legislature join in honoring the life and public service of Warren A. Grady and extend their condolences to his family and friends.
