AB978,1,2 1An Act relating to: grants for crisis intervention teams and making an
2appropriation.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
This bill provides $1,000,000 for the Department of Health Services to award
grants to local governmental units for the staffing of law enforcement agencies with
mental health crisis intervention teams. Under current law, DHS must award
grants totalling $250,000 in each fiscal biennium for mental health crisis
intervention team training for law enforcement agencies and correctional officers.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:

AB978,2,24 (1) Crisis intervention team grants. In the schedule under s. 20.005 (3) for the
5appropriation to the department of health services under s. 20.435 (5) (cd), the dollar
6amount for fiscal year 2019-20 is increased by $1,000,000 to award grants, as

1determined by the department of health services, to local governmental units for the
2staffing of law enforcement agencies with mental health crisis intervention teams.
