AB545,1,3
1An Act to amend 946.69 (title); and
to create 946.69 (2) (c) of the statutes;
2relating to: impersonating a public officer, public employee, or employee of a
3utility and providing a penalty.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, it is a Class I felony for a person to assume to act in an official
capacity of a public office knowing that he or she is not a public officer, employee, or
utility employee or to exercise any function of a public office that he or she is not
qualified to exercise.
Under the bill, it is a Class I felony for a person to impersonate or represent
oneself to be a public officer, employee, or the employee of a utility with the intent
to mislead others into believing that he or she is actually a public officer or employee
or the employee of a utility.
Because this bill creates a new crime or revises a penalty for an existing crime,
the Joint Review Committee on Criminal Penalties may be requested to prepare a
report.
