2023 Assembly Joint Resolution 54
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: honoring the life and public service of Representative Daniel LeMahieu.
Whereas, Representative Daniel Roy LeMahieu, a dedicated public servant, proud veteran, community and business leader, and loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away on February 18, 2022; and
Whereas, Daniel LeMahieu was born to Lewis and Lenore on November 5, 1946, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin; and
Whereas, he graduated from Oostburg High School in 1964 and went on to attend the UW-Sheboygan and UW-Milwaukee; and
Whereas, Daniel LeMahieu served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971 before working in advertising at News Graphic for over ten years; and
Whereas, he went on to purchase the Lakeshore Weekly and was the owner and publisher of the weekly for 23 years; and
Whereas, Daniel LeMahieu served as a Sheboygan County Board Supervisor from 1988 until 2002, twice being elected chairman; and
Whereas, Daniel LeMahieu was first elected to the Wisconsin Assembly in 2002 and proudly represented the people of the 59th Assembly District for 12 years; and
Whereas, during his time in the assembly, he served as vice-chair of the powerful Joint Committee on Finance and also served as co-chair of the Joint Committee for Review of Administrative Rules and chair of the Assembly Committee on Urban and Local Affairs; and
Whereas, Daniel LeMahieu was a lifelong member of Bethel Orthodox Presbyterian Church, where he served as elder, Sunday School superintendent, sang in choir, and was active in Men’s Life; and
Whereas, Daniel LeMahieu was also active in the Oostburg Business Association and the Oostburg Kiwanis Club and, during retirement, served on the board of Anchor of Hope and the regional board of Thrivent; and
Whereas, Daniel LeMahieu will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his community and the state of Wisconsin; and
Whereas, Daniel LeMahieu’s legacy in the Wisconsin Legislature lives on through his son, Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin State Legislature join in honoring the life and public service of Representative Daniel LeMahieu and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this resolution to Rosemary, Daniel LeMahieu’s wife of 54 years.
