2019 Senate Joint Resolution 43
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: recognizing June 9 to 15, 2019, as Army Week in Wisconsin.
Whereas, June 14, 2019, marks 244 years of the Army's continuous defense of the nation; and
Whereas, the U.S. Army was established on June 14, 1775, by the Second Continental Congress, and George Washington was selected as the first Commander-In-Chief; and
Whereas, the U.S. Army is the oldest and longest-serving branch of the U.S. military; and
Whereas, the Army is the largest branch of the military, consisting of nearly one million personnel, including over 450,000 active duty personnel; and
Whereas, over 13,300 Army soldiers and civilians are currently stationed or working in Wisconsin; and
Whereas, the U.S. Army has defended the United States in 11 major wars and numerous other conflicts throughout its history; and
Whereas, readiness has been the cornerstone of the Army's ability to serve wherever needed during its 244-year legacy and remains the Army's number one priority, and the soldiers and civilians serving in the Army stand ready to meet any challenge, remain ready to fight, and will continue to adapt and modernize to remain the most lethal land force in the world; and
Whereas, every Army soldier lives his or her life according to the Army values of loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage; and
Whereas, Army civilians and soldiers will continue to maintain the trust and confidence of the American people while adding to the proud legacy of the Army; and
Whereas, the State of Wisconsin recognizes and honors the civilians and soldiers serving in the Army and their legacy of brave service to our state and nation as a whole; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the Wisconsin Legislature declares the week of June 9 to 15, 2019, as Army Week to recognize the service of the U.S. Army to our country and those who serve and have served in it.
