Fee for WPDES general permits
Under current law, a person may not discharge a pollutant into waters of the state without a Wisconsin pollutant discharge elimination system permit issued by DNR. In addition to site-specific individual permits, DNR is authorized to issue a general permit that authorizes specified discharges in a designated area of the state. This bill requires DNR to charge a $425 processing fee for these permits.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:
Section 1. 283.35 (1) of the statutes is amended to read:
283.35 (1) Authorization. Instead of issuing a separate permit to an individual point source, the department may issue a general permit applicable to a designated area of the state authorizing discharges from specified categories or classes of point sources located within that area. The department shall charge a processing fee of $425 for each permit issued under this subsection.
