The student has resided in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Iowa, or 18Michigan, or in any combination of these states, for at least 12 months immediately 19preceding the beginning of any semester or session in which the student enrolls in 20an institution. A person who is a resident of and living in this state at the time 23of registering at an institution and who is a veteran described under s. 45.01 (12) 24(fm) is entitled to the exemption under par. (a). SB45-SSA2-SA3,6,3236.27 (2) (cr) A person who is not a citizen of the United States is entitled to 3the exemption under par. (a) if that person meets all of the following requirements: SB45-SSA2-SA3,6,541. The person graduated from a high school in this state or received a 5declaration of equivalency of high school graduation from this state. SB45-SSA2-SA3,6,862. The person was continuously present in this state for at least 3 years 7following the first day of attending a high school in this state or immediately 8preceding receipt of a declaration of equivalency of high school graduation. SB45-SSA2-SA3,6,1293. The person enrolls in an institution and provides that institution with proof 10that the person has filed or will file an application for lawful permanent resident 11status with the U.S. citizenship and immigration services as soon as the person is 12eligible to do so. SB45-SSA2-SA3,6,161436.27 (3g) Fee remission for certain tribal members. (a) Subject to pars. 15(b) and (c), the board shall grant full remission of academic fees and segregated fees 16to any student enrolled in the system who is all of the following: SB45-SSA2-SA3,6,17171. A bona fide resident of this state, as determined under sub. (2). SB45-SSA2-SA3,6,19182. An enrolled member of a federally recognized American Indian tribe in this 19state. SB45-SSA2-SA3,6,2120(b) A student is eligible for remission of fees under par. (a) for 128 credits or 8 21semesters, whichever is longer. 1Section 16. 36.27 (3p) (a) 1r. g. of the statutes is created to read: SB45-SSA2-SA3,7,3236.27 (3p) (a) 1r. g. The person meets the criteria described under s. 45.01 3(12) (fm). SB45-SSA2-SA3,7,9536.27 (3q) Fee remission for student teachers. (a) In this subsection, 6“student teacher” means an individual enrolled in the system who is a bona fide 7resident of this state, as determined under sub. (2), and who is participating in the 8student teaching component of an educator preparatory program approved by the 9state superintendent of public instruction under s. 115.28 (7) (a).
