AB393-ASA3,1,2 1An Act relating to: studying the potential benefits and drawbacks of human
2consumption of kratom.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB393-ASA3,1 3Section 1 . Nonstatutory provisions.
AB393-ASA3,2,24 (1) Kratom research. The Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin
5System shall ensure that a study is conducted at the University of
6Wisconsin-Madison regarding the potential benefits and drawbacks of human
7consumption of the leaves of the Mitragyna speciosa plant and shall, on the first day
8of the 18th month beginning after the effective date of this subsection, submit to the
9governor and to the appropriate standing committees of the legislature under s.
1013.172 (3) a report prepared by the researchers conducting the study detailing the
11results of the study and any recommendations for legislation regarding human

1consumption of the leaves of the Mitragyna speciosa plant based on the results of the
2study.
AB393-ASA3,2 3Section 2. Fiscal changes.
AB393-ASA3,2,74 (1) Kratom research funding. In the schedule under s. 20.005 (3) for the
5appropriation to the University of Wisconsin System under s. 20.285 (1) (a), the
6dollar amount for fiscal year 2024-25 is increased by $100,000 for the administration
7of the kratom research under Section 1 (1 ) of this act.
