APPLICATION FOR REGISTRATION
SPS 175.02   Application for registration.
SPS 175.025   Required education and work experience.

SPS 175.02 SPS 175.02Application for registration. An applicant for registration as a sanitarian shall submit all of the following:
SPS 175.02(1) (1) A completed application on the form supplied by the department.
SPS 175.02(2) (2)The required fee under s. 440.03 (9) (a), Stats.
SPS 175.02(3) (3)   Evidence of passage of the examination required under ch. SPS 176.
SPS 175.02(4) (4)   An original official transcript evidencing completion of the education requirement in s. SPS 175.025. The transcript must be sent by the educational institution to the department.
SPS 175.02(5) (5)  Verification of the work experience requirement in s. SPS 175.025, which shall include a detailed description of the position held, length of employment, duties of the position, and number of hours worked per year in the field of environmental health. This verification shall be submitted by the applicant’s work supervisor for each position used to meet the work experience requirement.

SPS 175.025 SPS 175.025Required education and work experience. An applicant for registration must have completed one of the following combinations of education and work experience:
SPS 175.025(1) (1)   A baccalaureate or higher degree in environmental health from an accredited college or university with at least 30 semester or 45 quarter hour academic credits in environmental, physical, biological, chemical, or environmental health areas and one year of full-time equivalent employment in the field of environmental health.
SPS 175.025(2) (2)   A baccalaureate or higher degree in physical or biological sciences from an accredited college or university with at least 30 semester or 45 quarter hour academic credits in environmental, physical, biological, chemical, or environmental health areas and 2 years of full-time equivalent employment in the field of environmental health.
SPS 175.025(3) (3)   A baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited college or university and 4 years of full-time equivalent employment in the field of environmental health.
SPS 175.025(4) (4)   An associate degree from an accredited college, community college or technical institute in environmental, physical, biological or chemical sciences, and 5 years of full-time equivalent employment in the field of environmental health.
SPS 175.025(5) (5)   An associate degree from an accredited college, community college or technical institute and 8 years of full-time equivalent employment in the field of environmental health.

SPS 175.05 SPS 175.05Application review.
SPS 175.05(1)(1)An applicant shall submit a completed application for registration and application fee to the department.
SPS 175.05(2) (2)The department shall make an investigation as it deems necessary to determine if the applicant shall receive a certificate of registration and may request additional documentation prior to approving an application.
SPS 175.05(3) (3)The applicant shall be notified in writing of the department's decision regarding their application. An applicant may appeal the application review decision of the department in accordance with ch. SPS 1 procedures.

SPS 175.06 SPS 175.06Reciprocal licensure and certification.
SPS 175.06(1)(1)Reciprocity generally. Upon application and payment of the appropriate application fee, an applicant who holds a certificate of registration or license as a sanitarian in good standing issued by the proper authority of any state, territory, or possession of the United States, any foreign country, or any other organization that registers or certifies sanitarians, may receive a certificate in this state provided that the requirements for the registration in the other jurisdiction are comparable to the qualifications for registration in this chapter. The successful passage of a recognized professional examination of any state, territory or possession of the United States, any foreign country or any other organization may be construed as tantamount to passing the required examination recognized by the department, provided that the scope of the examination and the applicant's passing score are comparable to the examination and passing score administered under this chapter.
SPS 175.06(2) (2)Reciprocity for service members, former service members, and spouses of service members or former service members. A reciprocal sanitarian registration shall be granted to an applicant who is a service member, former service member, or the spouse of a service member or former service member as defined in s. 440.09 (1), Stats., if the department determines that the applicant meets all of the requirements under s. 440.09 (2), Stats. Subject to s. 440.09 (2m), Stats., the department may request verification necessary to make a determination under this subsection.
