Whereas, February is recognized across the nation as Teen Dating Violence
4Awareness and Prevention Month; and

Whereas, dating violence is a reality for many youth and an issue that many
6parents are unaware of; and

Whereas, one in five teens is a victim of physical, emotional, or verbal abuse
8from a dating partner, and two in three teens who were in an abusive relationship
9never told anyone about it; and

Whereas, more than half of women and men who have been physically or
11sexually abused or stalked by a dating partner first experience abuse between 11 and
1224 years old; and

Whereas, young people can choose better relationships when they understand
14that healthy relationships are based on respect and when they learn to identify early
15warning signs of an abusive relationship; and

Whereas, Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month provides an
4excellent opportunity for citizens to learn more about preventing dating violence and
5to show support for the numerous organizations and individuals who provide critical
6advocacy, services, and assistance to victims; now, therefore, be it

senate, the assembly concurring, That the Wisconsin
8State Legislature does hereby recognize February as Teen Dating Violence
9Awareness and Prevention Month.
