SB496,1,2 1An Act to amend 119.04 (1); and to create 120.12 (29) of the statutes; relating
2to:
paid preparation time for teachers.

This bill requires each school board to ensure that a teacher's daily schedule
includes self-directed preparation time of at least 45 minutes or the equivalent of one
class period, whichever is greater.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:

SB496,2 10Section 2 . 120.12 (29) of the statutes is created to read:
SB496,2,1311 120.12 (29) Teacher preparation time. Ensure that each teacher's daily
12schedule includes self-directed preparation time of at least 45 minutes or the
13equivalent of one class period, whichever is greater.
SB496,3 14Section 3 . Initial applicability.
SB496,2,1815 (1) This act first applies to a teacher who is affected by a collective bargaining
16agreement or other contract that contains provisions inconsistent with this act on the
17day on which the collective bargaining agreement or contract expires or is extended,
18modified, or renewed, whichever occurs first.
