AR16,1,2 1Relating to: proclaiming September 2023 to be National Service Dog Month in
2Wisconsin.
AR16,1,43 Whereas, we believe in the joyful, transformative power of the human-canine
4bond and inclusivity of all citizens; and
AR16,1,75 Whereas, in the United States, 64 million adults and children have a disability,
6only 16,000 service dogs from accredited training programs exist nationwide, and the
7need is growing; and
AR16,1,108 Whereas, Canine Companions is a nonprofit organization that enhances the
9lives of people with disabilities by providing expertly trained service dogs and
10ongoing support to ensure quality partnerships; and
AR16,1,1411 Whereas, Canine Companions and their service dogs empower people with
12disabilities to lead life with greater independence by providing best-in-class
13training, ongoing follow up services, and a deeply committed community of support;

1Whereas, National Service Dog Month aims to educate our community about
2the benefits of service dogs and the laws protecting them; and
AR16,2,53 Whereas, Wisconsin continues to work toward becoming an inclusive
4community in which all citizens, and their service dogs, are embraced; now,
5therefore, be it
AR16,2,8 6Resolved by the assembly, That, in recognition of service dogs and the adults
7and children with disabilities in our community, the Wisconsin Assembly does
8hereby proclaim September to be National Service Dog Month; and, be it further
AR16,2,11 9Resolved, That the Wisconsin Assembly encourages all citizens to celebrate
10task trained service dogs and to be respectful of the rights afforded to the adults,
11children, and veterans who lead more independent lives because of their assistance.
