AJR98,1,1 1Relating to: supporting Wisconsin agricultural autonomy and food security.
AJR98,1,32 Whereas, the state of Wisconsin has a rich and storied history of agricultural
3production and a thriving agricultural industry; and
AJR98,1,64 Whereas, agriculture is the second largest industry in Wisconsin—contributing
5approximately $105 billion to the state's economy—and a significant driver of
6national and international exportation of agricultural products; and
AJR98,1,87 Whereas, the agricultural sector plays a pivotal role in furnishing nutritious
8food and other resources to the population; and
AJR98,1,119 Whereas, certain states have enacted laws imposing production standards and
10criteria for agricultural products that prohibit the sale of agricultural products that
11do not conform to these arbitrary requirements; and
AJR98,1,1412 Whereas, such laws can have significant repercussions, potentially
13destabilizing the U.S. food supply chain and hindering agricultural product sales;
14and
AJR98,2,6
1Whereas, laws that dictate agricultural practices and prohibit product sales
2that fall outside of these requirements can result in excessive financial burdens on
3farmers, have a detrimental impact on out-of-state producers, introduce
4competitive disparities, increase farm closures, and develop an unmanageable
5patchwork of agricultural markets obstructing the free flow of goods throughout the
6United States; now, therefore, be it
AJR98,2,10 7Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin
8Legislature reaffirms its commitment to uphold farmers' right to establish
9appropriate protocols for agricultural practices that align with the needs of their
10farms; and, be it further
AJR98,2,13 11Resolved, That the Wisconsin Legislature steadfastly supports the
12continuance of national commodity markets that permit farmers to sell their
13agricultural products in any state.
