AJR53,1,32 Whereas, in 1846, the U.S. government gave permission to the Territory of
3Wisconsin to take the necessary steps to become a state; and
AJR53,1,54 Whereas, in 1846, a convention drafted a constitution that failed to be ratified
5by the territory's voters; and
AJR53,1,76 Whereas, a second constitutional convention met in the winter of 1847-48,
7which drafted a second constitution; and
AJR53,1,88 Whereas, the territory's voters ratified the constitution on March 13, 1848; and
AJR53,1,109 Whereas, on May 29, 1848, President Polk signed legislation that admitted
10Wisconsin to the union, granting Wisconsin statehood; and

12is called “America's Dairyland” and the “Badger State”; and

5legislature recognize that 2023 marks the 175th year of Wisconsin's statehood,
6reflect on Wisconsin's rich history, and look forward to the future of the state.
