AJR136,1,63 Whereas, March 12, 2024, marks the 112th anniversary of the Girl Scouts of the
4United States of America, which began in 1912 when Savannah, Georgia, native
5Juliette “Daisy” Gordon Low gathered 18 girls to provide them the opportunity to
6develop physically, mentally, and spiritually; and
AJR136,1,97 Whereas, for 112 years, Girl Scouting has helped build millions of girls and
8women of courage, confidence, and character, who act to make the world a better
9place; and
AJR136,1,1210 Whereas, the award-winning Girl Scout Leadership Program helps girls
11discover themselves and their values, connect with others, and take action to make
12the world a better place; and
AJR136,2,213 Whereas, the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest honor in Girl Scouting,
14requires girls to make a measurable and sustainable difference in their

1communities, assess a need and design a solution, find the resources and support to
2make it happen, complete the project, and inspire others to sustain it; and
AJR136,2,43 Whereas, the Gold Award honors leadership in the Girl Scout tradition, and
4Gold Award recipients have already changed the world as high school students; and
AJR136,2,75 Whereas, core programs around science, technology, engineering, and math
6(STEM); environmental stewardship; healthy living; financial literacy; and global
7citizenship help girls develop a solid foundation in leadership; and
AJR136,2,108 Whereas, since its founding in 2000, the Girl Scout Research Institute has
9become an internationally recognized center for original research, research reviews,
10and surveys that provide significant insights into the lives of girls; and
AJR136,2,1311 Whereas, through its expertise and commitment to girls, the Girl Scout
12program is helping each girl to discover that she is a go-getter, an innovator, a
13risk-taker, and a leader; a G.I.R.L.; and
AJR136,2,1614 Whereas, through the dedication, time, and talent of volunteers of different
15backgrounds, abilities, and areas of expertise, the Girl Scout program is brought to
16over 39,000 girls in grades K–12 across the state of Wisconsin; and
AJR136,2,2117 Whereas, today, more than 50 million American women are Girl Scout
18alumnae, 2.5 million girls and adult volunteers are active members, and Girl Scouts
19is the largest member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, a
20global movement composed of more than 10 million girls in 153 countries worldwide;
21now, therefore, be it
AJR136,3,2 22Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That March 12, 2024, is
23recognized as National Girl Scout Day in Wisconsin, and the legislature

1congratulates the Girl Scouts of the United States of America on 112 years of
2scouting.
