AB880,1,2 1An Act to amend 125.09 (7) of the statutes; relating to: providing alcohol
2beverage retailers with identification scanners.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Current law prohibits municipalities from providing to alcohol beverage retail
licensees any device capable of scanning a driver's license or identification card
issued by the Department of Transportation.
The bill repeals this prohibition and also prohibits a municipality that provides
such a device from collecting or retaining data derived from the device.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB880,1 3Section 1. 125.09 (7) of the statutes is amended to read:
AB880,1,74 125.09 (7) Municipality providing identification scanners. No If a
5municipality may provide, provides to any retail licensee under this chapter, any
6device capable of scanning an official identification card, as defined in s. 125.085 (1)
7(a) and (b), the municipality may not collect or retain data derived from the device.
