AB511,1,5 An Act to amend 348.27 (9) (a) 3. g. and 348.27 (9) (a) 3. n.; and to create 348.27 (9) (a) 3. gm., 348.27 (9) (a) 3. hm., 348.27 (9) (a) 3. o., 348.27 (9) (a) 3. p., 348.27 (9) (a) 3. q., 348.27 (9) (a) 3. r., 348.27 (9) (a) 3. s. and 348.27 (9) (a) 3. t. of the statutes; relating to: permits for certain oversize or overweight vehicles transporting forest products.

Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau

Under current law, with limited exceptions, no person may operate on a highway any vehicle or combination of vehicles that exceeds certain statutory limits on size, weight, or load unless that person possesses a permit issued by the Department of Transportation. Currently, DOT may issue an annual or consecutive month permit for an oversize or overweight vehicle to transport loads within 11 miles of the Wisconsin-Michigan state line and on specifically designated highways, if the vehicle does not violate length or weight limitations under Michigan law (commonly known as the Michigan border permit).

This bill adds the following highway segments to the Michigan border permit:

1. STH 70, from the junction with westbound STH 139 in Florence County to the junction with STH 13 in the town of Fifield.

2. STH 54, from the junction with CTH S in Outagamie County to the junction with STH 55 in the town of Oneida in Outagamie County.

3. STH 32, from the junction with STH 64 in Oconto County to Cottonwood Lane three-quarters of a mile southeast of the village of Suring.

4. STH 17, from the junction with STH 70 in the city of Eagle River to the junction with Sundstein Road in Vilas County.

5. STH 13, from the junction with STH 70 in the town of Fifield in Price County to the junction with 5th Street in the city of Park Falls.

6. STH 13, from the intersection with Old Airport Road to the northernmost intersection with CTH “C” in Ashland County.

7. USH 63, from the junction with USH 2 in Bayfield County to the junction with Krueger Road in the town of Bass Lake in Sawyer County.

8. STH 22, from the junction with USH 41 in the city of Oconto to the junction with STH 47/55 in the city of Shawano.

9. STH 55, from the junction of STH 47/55 with STH 22 in the city of Shawano to the junction with USH 151 in Calumet County.

10. USH 151, from the junction with STH 55 in Calumet County to the junction with CTH S in Manitowoc County.

AB511,11 Section 11. Nonstatutory provisions.

AB511,4,3 (1) Notwithstanding s. 13.096 (2), the department of transportation may not prepare a report on this bill under s. 13.096 (2) and (3).
