SB950,1,2 1An Act to amend 115.28 (59) (a) of the statutes; relating to: academic and
2career planning services for pupils in grades 6 to 12.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, the state superintendent of public instruction must ensure
that every school board provides academic and career planning services to pupils
enrolled in grades 6 to 12 in the school district. This bill specifies that a school board
may meet that requirement by offering the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude
Battery Career Exploration Program, a career planning and exploration program
sponsored by the federal Department of Defense that is available to participating
schools at no cost.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
SB950,1 3Section 1. 115.28 (59) (a) of the statutes is amended to read:
SB950,2,24 115.28 (59) (a) Ensure that, beginning in the 2017-18 school year, every school
5board is providing academic and career planning services to pupils enrolled in grades
66 to 12 in the school district. A school board may meet the requirement under this

1paragraph by offering the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery Career
2Exploration Program to pupils.
