AR6,1,2 1Relating to: honoring the service, leadership, and tenure of Robin Vos as
2Wisconsin's 75th and longest-serving Speaker of the Assembly.
AR6,1,63 Whereas, Representative Robin Vos, a lifelong resident of Racine County,
4entered the public arena as a young man, serving as student member of the
5University of Wisconsin Board of Regents during the 1989-91 period and then as a
6Racine County Board supervisor during the 1994-2004 period; and
AR6,1,87 Whereas, Robin Vos was first elected to serve the 63rd Assembly District in
82004, and is now serving his ninth term in office; and
AR6,1,119 Whereas, Robin Vos was quickly recognized as a leader by his colleagues,
10chairing numerous committees throughout his tenure, including the powerful Joint
11Committee on Finance during the 2011-12 legislative session; and
AR6,1,1512 Whereas, Robin Vos was first elected as the 75th Speaker of the Assembly in
132013 and has been re-elected four times, making him the longest-serving Assembly
14Speaker in state history, with a record-breaking tenure of 2,927 days as Speaker;

1Whereas, as Speaker of the Assembly, Robin Vos led several of the largest
2Republican majorities in the Assembly in state history, while ensuring that an
3overwhelming majority of the bills passed by the Assembly received bipartisan
4support; and
AR6,2,85 Whereas, during Speaker Vos's tenure, the Wisconsin State Legislature
6approved one of the largest tax cuts in state history, steadfastly refused to raise
7income and sales taxes on Wisconsin residents and businesses, and took actions to
8ensure the largest rainy day fund in this state's history; and
AR6,2,119 Whereas, under Speaker Vos's leadership, the Wisconsin State Legislature has
10enacted a bold program of welfare reform that promotes accountability and
11responsibility and has served as a model for states across the nation; and
AR6,2,1512 Whereas, under Speaker Vos's leadership, the Wisconsin State Legislature
13enacted the largest increase in funding for Wisconsin's schools, froze state resident
14tuition at the University of Wisconsin, and championed the Campus Free Speech Act;
15and
AR6,2,1816 Whereas, under Speaker Vos's leadership, the Wisconsin State Legislature
17repealed Wisconsin's prevailing wage law and enacted Wisconsin's Right to Work
18Law, ensuring free market competition and promoting individual freedom; and
AR6,2,2119 Whereas, Speaker Robin Vos has encouraged numerous good governance
20reforms, including the overhaul of outdated, onerous, and costly administrative rules
21and regulations; and
AR6,3,222 Whereas, while serving as Speaker, Robin Vos has created more than ten
23bipartisan task forces that have led to the development of vital and significant
24legislation on issues affecting Wisconsin, like mental health, rural schools, water

1quality, racial disparities, adoption, suicide prevention, urban education, school
2funding, and foster care; and
AR6,3,63 Whereas, Robin Vos is recognized as a legislative leader not only in Wisconsin,
4but also by state legislators across the country, having served with distinction as
5President of the National Conference of State Legislatures and as Vice Chair of the
6State Legislative Leaders Foundation; now, therefore, be it
AR6,3,10 7Resolved by the assembly, That the members of the Wisconsin State
8Assembly hereby recognize and honor the service, leadership, and tenure of Robin
9Vos, Wisconsin's 75th Speaker of the Assembly, and the longest-serving speaker in
10Wisconsin history.
