SB719,1,2 1An Act relating to: modifying administrative rules relating to the use of wood
2to contain bear bait in stumps.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, the Department of Natural Resources regulates the
hunting, fishing, and trapping of wild animals and is required to promulgate rules
to carry out that function. Under rules promulgated by DNR, a person hunting for
bear, training a bear dog, or hunting deer in specified counties may not place, use,
or hunt over bait or feed that contains or is contained within metal, paper, plastic,
glass, wood, or other similar processed materials. This prohibition does not apply to
bait or feed placed in hollow logs or stumps or to scent materials.
Under this bill, the exception for bait or feed placed in stumps is expanded to
include stumps to which bottoms made of wood or similar processed materials are
affixed with adhesive, nails, or screws.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
SB719,1 3Section 1 . NR 10.07 (2m) (f) 1. of the administrative code is amended to read:
SB719,2,44 NR 10.07 (2m) (f) 1. Contains or is contained within metal, paper, plastic, glass,
5wood or other similar processed materials. This subdivision does not apply to bait or
