SB648,1,2 1An Act relating to: requiring pediatricians and pediatric specialists to view
2presentations about neuroimmune disorders in children.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
This bill requires each physician who specializes in general pediatrics or a
pediatric specialty to view not less than two hours of live presentations or webinars
about neuroimmune disorders in children, including pediatric acute-onset
neuropsychiatric syndrome and autoimmune encephalitis, by January 1, 2022. Also,
under the bill, the Department of Health Services must consult with the Medical
Examining Board to designate live presentations and webinars about child
neuroimmune disorders, must designate the dates on which the live presentations
and webinars will be held, and must make information about the presentations and
webinars available on its Internet site. The bill requires that the live presentations
and webinars that DHS designates must be approved by the examining board as
satisfying continuing education requirements for physicians.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:

1(1) Education on neuroimmune disorders in children required for
2pediatricians and pediatric specialists.
By January 1, 2022, each physician who
3specializes in general pediatrics or a pediatric specialty on the effective date of this
4subsection shall view not less than 2 hours of live presentations or webinars
5designated by the department of health services about neuroimmune disorders in
6children, including pediatric acute-onset neuropsychiatric syndrome and
7autoimmune encephalitis. In designating a live presentation and webinar about
8neuroimmune disorders in children under this subsection, the department of health
9services shall consult with the medical examining board, and may not designate a
10live presentation or webinar under this subsection unless the medical examining
11board approves the presentation or webinar as a continuing education program or
12course of study that satisfies the requirement under s. 448.13 (1) (a) 1. The
13department of health services shall designate several dates during both 2020 and
142021 for the live presentations and webinars about neuroimmune disorders in
15children under this subsection to be held and shall make information about the live
16presentations and webinars available on its Internet site.
