2basketball team for winning the 2019 NCAA Division 1 National

AJR34,1,54 Whereas, Anthony “Tony” Guy Bennett has served as the University of
5Virginia's men's basketball team head coach since 2009; and
AJR34,1,86 Whereas, he was born in Clintonville, Wisconsin, attended Green Bay's Preble
7High School, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay, the latter
8two of which are located in the 88th Assembly District; and
AJR34,1,129 Whereas, while he was a student at the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay, he
10played on the men's basketball team from 1989-92 and received the 1992 Frances
11Pomeroy Naismith Award and the 1992 GTE Academic All-American of the Year
12award; and
AJR34,1,1413 Whereas, he was selected in the 1992 National Basketball Association draft to
14play for the Charlotte Hornets, where he played for three years; and

1Whereas, he served on the coaching staff on teams in New Zealand and
2Australia and at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and served as the head coach
3at Washington State University before moving to the University of Virginia, where
4he has served for the last decade; now, therefore, be it

6State Legislature hereby commends Tony Bennett of the University of Virginia men's
7basketball team for winning the 2019 NCAA Division 1 National Championship.
