AB160,1,3 1An Act to amend 36.27 (title) and 36.27 (1) (a); and to create 36.27 (6) (c) of the
2statutes; relating to: segregated fees for part-time students at University of
3Wisconsin System schools.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
This bill requires segregated fees charged to part-time students at University
of Wisconsin System schools to be calculated on a per credit basis.
Under current law, the Board of Regents of the UW System may establish fees
incidental to enrollment in educational programs or use of system facilities. In
addition to academic fees or nonresident tuition, the Board of Regents may charge
students segregated fees. The segregated fees applicable at each UW school must be
posted on the school's Internet site along with detailed information on the
organizations and activities for which certain segregated fees are expended, and
each student's bill for a semester or session must list the amount assessed against
the student for segregated fees separately from the amount assessed for academic
fees or nonresident tuition. Segregated fees may be used only for the purpose for
which they are charged.
This bill requires that the amount of segregated fees assessed against
part-time students (those enrolled for fewer than 12 academic credits in a semester
or session) at UW schools be calculated on a per credit basis.

For further information see the state fiscal estimate, which will be printed as
an appendix to this bill.
