ASSEMBLY SUBSTITUTE AMENDMENT 1, TO ASSEMBLY BILL 977

AB977-ASA1,1,3 An Act to amend 118.07 (5); and to create 115.28 (66) and 121.02 (1) (L) 9. of the statutes; relating to: human trafficking prevention information for pupils and school staff.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:

AB977-ASA1,1 Section 1. 115.28 (66) of the statutes is created to read:

AB977-ASA1,1,9 115.28 (66) Human trafficking prevention; training courses. In consultation with the department of children and families and the department of justice, develop and maintain a list of recommended training courses related to recognizing, reporting, and preventing human trafficking that are age-appropriate for pupils in grades 6 to 12.

AB977-ASA1,2 Section 2. 118.07 (5) of the statutes is amended to read:

AB977-ASA1,2,8 118.07 (5) Each school board shall require every employee of the school district governed by the school board to receive training provided by the department in identifying children who have been abused or neglected, in the laws and procedures under s. 48.981 governing the reporting of suspected or threatened child abuse and neglect, and in the laws under s. 175.32 governing the reporting of a threat of violence. The department shall include information related to recognizing and reporting human trafficking in the training provided under this subsection. A school district employee shall receive that training within the first 6 months after commencing employment with the school district and at least once every 5 years after that initial training.

AB977-ASA1,3 Section 3. 121.02 (1) (L) 9. of the statutes is created to read:

AB977-ASA1,2,13 121.02 (1) (L) 9. Beginning in the 2024-25 school year, as part of the health curriculum, provide instruction in human trafficking prevention that is consistent with training courses recommended under s. 115.28 (66) at least once in grades 6 to 8 and at least once in grades 9 to 12.
